Govt of India is taking all steps to stop frauds in Merchant Navy. After starting e-Migrate system for the seafarers to stop fraud agents from recruiting , now Govt is all set to check fraud institutes.
Director general of shipping is going to make it mandatory for the institutes conducting GP rating course, to provide employment after completion of the course.
As per DGS training Circular 2017, “Institutes can admit only those candidates for whom they have secured sponsorship from shipping companies for six months onboard training. Institutes shall submit the sponsorship letter to DGS, before admitting the students for each batch.”
Almost all candidates were jobless after completing the GP rating course. They have to live in pathetic conditions in Mumbai and look for the job not only for months but for years. Most of the GP rating candidates come from poor family and mostly from village areas. After spending lots of rupees in GP rating course also they were not getting any job and were falling prey to the agents.
After searching for job for months b square candidates were falling in the net of fraud agents. Agents are looting these candidates. In many cases either agent vanished after taking money or sent these poor seafarers to unknown ships where their life became like a slave.
This step of government will prove revolutionary. It will not only stop frauds but also help in improving the quality of seafarers.
